These pieces caught my eye a few months ago on twitter, so I got in touch with Ruth Thomas and Andy Swift (who makes them) to see if they’d like to show them at The Bicycle Academy. As you can see, the answer was “YES!”…
Based in my workshop on the outskirts of Bath, I make contemporary and original sculpture from steel and recycled metals. I enjoy working with mixed media and the contrasts and varying finishes of different materials – and so often combine stone and wood objects as part of my metal designs.
My inspirations are varied, drawing from both industrial architecture and natural landscapes. Reclamation and transformation is a key theme in all my work – I aim to make something beautiful and lasting from objects that might otherwise become scrap or waste material.
If you are a keen cyclist and/ or love bikes then you might just recognise the sculpture origins!
These on our web shop now, and I’ll add some wonderful bicycle screen prints later this week too…

I knew there was a reason I keep a box of worn out cassettes chainrings and bent wheels! Someone must be able to use them for something – I never imagined they would be used for this sort of thing though – amazing.
